4 Nutritionally-Rich Foods That Make Your Skin Shine

by LeAnn Cyr |

Everyone will eventually experience signs of aging on their skin — No one other there can avoid it forever. But, just because the effects of aging are unavoidable doesn’t mean there aren’t steps you can take to stave them off. Your diet, for example, is a critical element in influencing the appearance of your skin.

The following foods are rich in vitamins and minerals, which is exactly what your skin needs to make it shine.

RED BELL PEPPERS

Red bell peppers are chock full of antioxidants – which help remove harmful compounds from your body and defend against oxidation, which can wreak havoc on your skin. It’s also rich in vitamin C which assists your body in the creation of healthy, elastic collagen.

BLUEBERRIES

If you’re not a fan of red bell peppers, you can still get your daily dose of antioxidants by eating blueberries instead. They may be small, but they’re rich in the antioxidant anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant. Additionally, blueberries possess a healthy dose of vitamins A and C. The vitamins and antioxidants in blueberries can help protect and repair your skin from harmful sun damage and pollution.

BROCCOLI

Broccoli, whether you love it or loathe it, contains an array of vitamins and minerals, including folate, lutein, calcium, fiber, vitamins C and K, and several antioxidants. As mentioned, your body needs vitamin C to produce collagen, and the more you eat, the better your body will be at producing higher quality collagen than others of a similar age.

Raw broccoli is very healthy, and can be quickly eaten on the go. If you lightly cook it before eating, it will release more vitamins and minerals than raw broccoli will.

SPINACH

Spinach is another vegetable known to be jam packed with antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals, including magnesium, vitamins A, C, E, and K, lutein, and plant-based heme iron. One of the best things about eating spinach is its versatility. It can be eaten raw in salads, or cooked in a variety of dishes (or all by itself!).
